What to Practice for Hard Boxing Hits?

It is important to punch hard and also throw your punches correctly. Using poor form while punching is more likely to hurt you rather than your opponent. As you work on increasing your hitting strength, maintain good form by keeping your wrist in alignment as you throw punches. Certain forms of exercise help improve your hitting power in boxing.
Step 1
Spar regularly with a heavy bag. Heavy bags weigh an average of 40 to 100 lbs. Boxers punch the bags to build strength and stamina. Throw jabs, hooks and crosses at the bag for a minimum of five-minute intervals.
Step 2
Slow down your punches. While hitting, take a two-second break between punches to gain power and control over each hit.
Step 3
Punch through the object. Imagine punching through your opponent to increase impact of your hits.
Step 4
Keep your feet planted. Much of the strength from your punches comes from your legs. Lifting a foot off the ground as you hit takes the power out of your punch.
Step 5
Execute and return linear blows in a straight line. According to Sammy Franco, the founder of Contemporary Fighting Arts, the line where you initiate your punch should always be the same line where you retract your punch. Throwing arcs or dropping your punches minimizes impact power.
Step 6
Perform sets of isometric exercises. Isometric exercises teach you how to store and release energy, according to the Expert Boxing website. One sample exercise is to stand in front of a wall with your hands balled into fists. Push each fist into the wall as if it is stuck. Hold the pose for 15 seconds before releasing. Repeat the move for a total of three sets of 12 reps.
