Things to Know to Reduce Exercising Fatigue

Exercise can aggravate existing conditions and bring on symptoms such as fatigue and numb toes. Aerobic exercises cause your heart rate to speed up and may lead to muscle fatigue, but numb toes are not a normal result of exercise. See your doctor if exercise makes your toes numb or you feel excessively tired.
Foot Spasms
Foot spasms are typically brief and painful contractions in the feet or toes. Symptoms of foot spasms include numbness and tingling, fatigue, cramping, twitching, weakness and uncontrolled rapid movements. There are several potential causes of foot spasms, including heavy exercise and muscle cramps caused by overuse from sports or other physical activity. Light to moderate exercise and stretching is usually beneficial for spasms because it keeps your muscles loose; too much exercise is what leads to spasms and could elevate your heart rate.
Peripheral Artery Disease
Peripheral artery disease is characterized by narrowing blood vessels and hardening of your arteries. This reduces blood supply to your feet and may result in damaged nerves and tissue. Numb feet when you are at rest is a symptom of peripheral artery disease, as is fatigue and achy feet. When your condition is severe, it can also cause tingling in your toes. Symptoms often begin when you walk briskly or up hills, which also causes your heart rate to increase.
Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome
Chronic exertional compartment syndrome is characterized by compression on blood vessels and nerves during exercise. Muscles get bigger when you work out, which can squeeze the nerves and blood vessels near your major muscle groups. Numbness, pain and swelling in your feet and legs are common symptoms. You are likely to experience symptoms once you reach a high heart rate; when your heart is beating quickly it pumps a lot of blood to your muscles leading to expansion. Fatigue is not a common symptom, but is inevitable if you exercise at a high intensity.
Scleroderma
Scleroderma is a connective tissue disease that is characterized by an immune system that attacks healthy body tissue. The cause is unknown. Scleroderma causes numbness in the feet. It may also lead to pulmonary hypertension, which is a related condition that causes an enlarged heart, fatigue and shortness of breath. Pulmonary hypertension causes narrowing of your pulmonary arteries that lead to the lungs. The heart has to work harder to pump blood through the smaller arteries. Seventy percent of people with scleroderma also develop scarring in the lungs, called pulmonary fibrosis. This reduces your ability to exercise.
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
Tarsal tunnel syndrome is when there is compression on the posterior tibial nerve, which runs through the inside on the ankle and to the foot. Compression may cause numbness, pain or burning in the toes, sole and calf. Exercise can cause the immediate onset of symptoms from tarsal tunnel syndrome. Fatigue and an elevated heart rate are not symptoms of tarsal tunnel syndrome, but working out too hard can cause excessive tiredness and a high heart rate.
