Purpose of Different Boxing Trainings


Training for boxing is a serious business because you are going into the ring with the intent of throwing hard punches at your opponent and his goal is to do the same to you. To prepare for a fight, it is best to work with an experienced trainer who can get you in shape, stay balanced in the ring, throw effective punches and defend yourself.
Hand Speed
Your trainer will try to help you develop hand speed in the ring. You want to be able to throw punches quickly and accurately and he will have you work on the speed bag. When you hit the speed bag, you will throw your left jab in a speedy and rhythmic manner to develop an effective punch. Hit the speed bag with a 1-2-3 rhythm. In this manner, you will hit the speed bag and it will bound off the back supporting board, rebound to the front supporting board and then hit the back board again before you punch it for a second time. Hit the bag in this method for two to three minutes at a time.
Building Quickness
One of the most effective tools for building quickness in the ring is jumping rope. Boxers have been jumping rope for generations to help them move quickly in the ring. This will help them find openings to deliver punches and get out of the way when opponents are on the attack. Jump rope for three minutes at a time.
Roadwork
Boxers do roadwork to gain endurance and maintain sharpness throughout an eight-, 10- or 12-round fight. Roadwork is almost always done early in the morning before the fighter reports to the gym for extensive training. Run three to five miles a day at least four times per week when training for a fight.
Sparring
The only way a fighter can learn about his own abilities is to get in the ring with another boxer who has similar size, strength and experience. A boxing trainer will advise a fighter on how to throw punches and when to throw combinations. However, many fighters have a hard time sticking to a game plan once they have been punched in the nose. A seasoned trainer will urge the fighter to stick to the plan, even after he has been hit hard.
History
Fight trainers have a history of getting young fighters on track by giving them a training program, a schedule and then watching them closely to make sure all drills are done correctly. Private training can help ensure that the fighter gets the most out of the work he has done instead of wasting his time in the training process. It is why professional fighters work under the eye of top-level trainers.
