How to Style Wear a Kickboxing Belt?

Traditional and sport kickboxing don't include wearing a rank belt as part of their common practice. However, the popular appeal and boosted student retention associated with awarding rank belts is impossible to deny. In response to this, some kickboxing academies have adopted the awarding and wearing of rank belts into their curriculum. Those that do will use the same belt tying technique common to most other traditional Asian martial arts.
Step 1
Put on your kickboxing school's uniform, top and bottom, according to the conventions of your school.
Step 2
Pick up your rank belt and fold it in half, with the fold draped over one hand.
Step 3
Place the middle fold just below your navel.
Step 4
Wrap both ends all the way around your body until you're holding the loose ends, one in each hand, at your hips.
Step 5
Adjust as necessary to make each end of equal length to the other.
Step 6
Run one end of the belt across your belly, laying it directly on top of the part of the belt already in place.
Step 7
Tuck the other end of the belt under both layers of belt that are on your belly. Tucking it under only one creates a slip knot that can tighten uncomfortably during practice.
Step 8
Pull the tucked end out the bottom of the belt loops. Use it and the other end to tie a square knot just below your belly button.
