How to Select Water Polo Ball?

Water polo is a sport comprised of a team of six with a goalkeeper. The sport takes place in a swimming pool or body of water in which the players’ main focus is to prevent the opposing team from scoring a goal. Generally, water polo is played in water that is at least 6 feet deep, making it more challenging to acquire and maneuver the ball. The most important part of the game is the ball. Special water polo balls are generally made from two types of material, rubber and nylon.
Grip
One of the most important aspects of water polo is to maneuver the ball. In order to be in control of the game you have to have a good grip on the ball. Nylon water polo balls often have easy-to-grip wound linings that allow you to gain control of the ball, even when your hands are wet and slippery. Some rubber balls also have nylon grips to make them more cost effective, because nylon balls can be more expensive than rubber. Rubber balls can also provide a good grip when they include a tough textured panel, making them slip resistant.
Durability
Rubber balls may have a tendency to pop or puncture more readily than nylon-based water polo balls. Larger sized, lightweight balls made from rubber may have a tendency to puncture, especially if they are overfilled with air. Nylon balls allow you to squeeze and punch the ball without it affecting inside pressure or ruining the exterior.
Longevity
Both nylon and rubber balls are designed to last for several practices and games. A typical water polo ball is designed to withstand several pounds of torque and intense use from professional players. A water polo ball becomes more durable when it is made with a nylon base for flexibility and grip and then sealed with a rubber cover. Both materials add longevity, and in some cases come with a two-year warranty for long-term use and enjoyment.
Safety
Safety is important with any sport, and water polo is no exception. A water polo team consists of offense and defense team members who use upper body strength and fast, intense swimming skills to perform for their team. A goalie must also be fast and showcase good water maneuvering skills to block the ball. A strong, sturdy ball with a good grip is essential in making sure you can grab the ball, set it and execute a shot without it slipping or popping out of your grip. A ball made from a combination of materials is a good ball for most professional water polo players.
