Hair Masks for Body Steaming

A steam sauna is a place to unwind, detoxify and relax tense muscles. It is also a place to indulge in hair-restoring treatments. The heat of the steam can help a mask penetrate the hair follicle and deliver strengthening ingredients, like high-protein yogurt, right where you want them.
STEAM ROOM BASICS
The combined heat and moisture of a steam room will help any hair mask penetrate more deeply into the hair shaft. Because of the intense heat, you can also cut your mask time from 20 to 30 minutes to 10 or 15. If you have medical issues, consult your doctor before you spend time in a steam sauna, as it can be dangerous for people with certain conditions such as high blood pressure or kidney problems.
TYPES OF YOGURT MASKS
There are basic masks that incorporate yogurt as a protein-rich ingredient. If your hair is extra dry, you can use a mask that contains yogurt and oil, such as olive, jojoba or almond. If you have normal hair and just want to increase strength and shine, a yogurt and egg mask will do the trick. Always use plain, full-fat or cream-style yogurt for your hair mask and if you don't care for the smell, add a few drops of an essential oil like lavender, bergamot or geranium.
APPLYING A HAIR MASK
Mix your yogurt mask in a small bowl and apply to small sections of hair with a hair-coloring brush or your fingers. Once you've applied the mask, massage it gently into your scalp with your fingers and then comb through to the ends of your hair with a wide-tooth comb. Wrap hair snugly in a damp towel and relax in the steam room for 10 to 15 minutes.
POST-STEAM HAIR CARE
After your time in the steam room, shower and wash the yogurt mask out of your hair. Use your favorite shampoo -- you may need to shampoo twice to remove all the mask. Condition as you normally would to keep your hair soft and tangle-free. To pamper your hair even more, let it air-dry, if possible.
