Calorie Burning Effects of Kickboxing Routines

Kickboxing is a competitive sport that combines boxing and karate moves. The number of calories you burn in a kickboxing class depends on a variety of factors, including your weight and the amount of time you spend on the activity.
Calories Burned
A 150-pound person burns 238 calories during a 20-minute kickboxing session. A 135-pound person burns 160 calories during a 15-minute kickboxing workout.
MET Formula
A MET, known as a metabolic equivalent, is a number that represents the amount of energy used during an activity. To estimate the number of calories burned while kickboxing, calculate METs x 3.5 x weight in kg ÷ 200 x duration in minutes. Weight in kilograms is calculated by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2. If you weigh 150 pounds, your weight is 68 kg. According to the Compendium of Physical Activities Tracking Guide, which assigns MET values to hundreds of activities, kickboxing has a MET value of 10.
Activity Guide
Teens Health says kickboxing is an intense aerobic and cardiovascular sport that provides overall physical conditioning and tones muscles.
