Ankle Stability Through Wrap Feet Kickboxing

Wrapping feet for kickboxing provides lateral stability for the ankle. Because martial artists require a great deal of mobility around the ankle joint for kicking, foot wrapping is usually reserved for providing support to an injured ankle during a match or training.
Step 1
Apply the adhesive spray to an area approximately 4 inches above the ankle and around the mid-sole and top of the foot. The spray is used to make the pre-wrap adhere better to the skin.
Step 2
Start above the ankle and wrap the pre-wrap in horizontal loops down the leg, stopping just below the ankle. Start a second wrap to cover the mid-sole and top of the foot. The pre-wrap prevents skin irritation from the athletic tape.
Step 3
Create one horizontal wrap 4 inches above the ankle with athletic tape. Create a second wrap at the mid-sole. These wraps are referred to as anchors.
Step 4
Start with the top anchor on the inside of the leg and run a strip of athletic tape down the leg, across the ankle, under the foot and back up the outside of the leg, stopping at the top anchor. This strip provides lateral support and is known as the stirrup.
Step 5
Create one horizontal wrap near the bottom of the ankle to secure the stirrup. This horizontal wrap is known as the horseshoe.
Step 6
Repeat the previous two steps so you will have a total of three stirrups and three horseshoes.
Step 7
Cover the nontaped area between the top anchor and the bottom of the ankle with more horizontal wraps of athletic tape.
Step 8
Finish the taping by creating two heel locks to add further stability to the ankle. Make two figure eights going from the base of the heel to the ankle and back to the heel. End the wrap on the inside of the ankle.
