5 Things to Know About Snowboarding Nosepress

Jibbing is a prominent sub genre of slope-style snowboarding that involves sliding across fiberglass boxes and metallic rails. While recreational snowboarders spend their time on the slopes, jibbers practice their maneuvers in a specialized obstacle course known as the terrain park. The nosepress is an intermediate slope-style trick that involves balancing on the front end of the snowboard. When performing the nosepress, "Snowboarder Magazine" recommends lifting your back foot to keep the tail of the snowboard elevated above the ledge.
Step 1
Choose a slope-style snowboard that features a flexible deck for increased balance during the nosepress. Wear a polycarbonate snowboarding helmet to keep your head protected from the edges of the box. Ride with your nondominant in the lead position to practice the nosepress on flat ground.
Step 2
Shift your body weight forward as you reach a comfortable speed. Balance on the nose of the snowboard for a brief moment to get comfortable with the technique. Navigate your way to a beginner snowboard box that features an inclined takeoff ramp.
Step 3
Approach the nosepress with a moderate speed to maintain control during the takeoff. Ride forward with the toe edge of your snowboard parallel to the box. Bend your knees while ascending the inclined takeoff ramp.
Step 4
Straighten your legs to jump vertically above the snowboarding box. Keep the underside of your board parallel to the obstacle as you begin to lose altitude. Lean forward to initiate the nosepress technique.
Step 5
Lift your back foot to prevent the tail of your snowboard from making contact with the box. Hold your arms parallel to the ground as you slide across the obstacle. Jump away from the box as you reach the end and bend your knees to absorb the landing impact.
