5 Things to Know About Boxing Gloves

Your gloves are one of the most important pieces of boxing equipment. They protect your hands from scratches and fractures that can occur when you hit someone's face and other hard parts of the body. The padding also protects your opponent by distributing the force of the blow. It is important to wear correctly sized gloves and to measure your hand circumference to determine the proper fit. For the best results, measure both hands.
Step 1
Stretch out the tape measure inch side-down on a table top. Start at the 1-inch end and make sure you have enough tape to wrap around your hand.
Step 2
Place the pad of your hand, at the base of your fingers, in roughly the center of the length of tape measure. Keep your hand flat and pull the end of the tape measure over the back of your hand at the knuckles. The end of the tape should rest on the knuckle of your index finger.
Step 3
Keep your hand flat, hold the end of the tape in place and pull the rest of the tape taut to take up any slack.
Step 4
Wrap the other end of the tape up to meet the end. Record the number.
Step 5
Repeat all the previous steps on your other hand.
