4 Ways to Protect Testicles During Kickboxing

A direct kick to your testicles during kickboxing can cause a testicular rupture, a painful injury that requires surgical treatment. To protect your testicles in kickboxing, you have the option of wearing compression shorts or a jockstrap and protective cup. Before deciding on an option, check to ensure your specific style of kickboxing does not have a rule against one or both protection methods.
Step 1
Choose the right size protective cup and jockstrap for your body. Most protective cups come in standard sizes, such as small, medium and large. The cup should fully cover your testicles, but not be so big that it rubs against your thighs or slides around.
Step 2
Place the protective cup inside the front of your jockstrap. Secure it with the elastic, fabric fastener or snap closure, and then put on the jockstrap. Wear the jockstrap against your bare skin and beneath your underwear.
Step 3
Wear compression shorts beneath your jockstrap if you experience skin irritation from the jockstrap chafing against your bare skin. Or you can purchase compression shorts designed with a pocket for holding a protective cup that can be used in lieu of a jockstrap.
Step 4
Test the fit of your jockstrap or compression shorts by walking around and engaging in moves used in your style of kickboxing. Your protective cup should fit snugly to protect your testicles. If the cup is too loose, your risk of injury may actually be higher than if you wear no cup at all.
