4 Skin Benefits of Tetinaldhyde Vitamin A

Retinaldehyde is a form of vitamin A useful in treating skin ailments and ensuring healthy skin. Most forms of vitamin A have a difficult time penetrating your skin, but retinaldehyde is able to reach the lower layers of you skin and cause positive effects, according to Osmosis Skin Care reports. Talk to your doctor about the potential benefits of retinaldehyde.

Prevents Photoaging

Photoaging is a skin condition associated with overexposure to the midday sun. Symptoms of photoaging include the development of fine wrinkles, abnormal pigmentation of your skin and skin roughness. Photoaging makes you look older than you are. Retinaldehyde is effective in reversing the effects and preventing photoaging, according to a 1999 article in the journal “Dermatology.”

Inflammatory Skin Conditions

Some diseases or infections of the skin cause inflammation and damage to the skin. Retinaldehyde might be used to treat patients with inflammatory skin infections. Chronic use of retinaldehyde at 0.1 percent to 0.05 percent concentrations are not only effective in treating skin disease, but is also safe for use unlike other vitamin A topical solution, which cannot be used as a long-term treatment for skin conditions, an article in the December 1994 issue of the “Journal of Investigative Dermatology” notes.

Reverses the Effects of Aging

Aging is associated with wrinkles, non-elastic skin and mottled appearance. Using retinaldehyde might reverse these dermatologic signs of aging, according to a study in the 1999 issue of “Dermatology.” Retinaldehyde makes your skin more elastic and increases skin thickness. More research is required to establish the exact effects and mechanism of retinaldehyde.

Dose

You can tolerate up to 1 percent concentration of retinaldehyde. However, some side-effects such as skin irritation, redness and interference with follicle growth could occur. Less concentrated retinaldehyde preparations, such as those containing 0.1 percent to 0.05 percent retinaldehyde, are much better tolerated, according to the study in the “Journal of Investigative Dermatology.” Always consult your doctor before using any retinaldehyde medications.
