3 Things to Know About Cheerleading Box Motion

The box motion in cheerleading is a beginner's move. It is one of the basic moves that, when combined with other basic moves, forms the basis of more elaborate cheer routines. Cheerleaders must master this move, as well as other simple moves, before moving on to more difficult routines. Although straightforward, the box move does contain some details that the cheerleader should be aware of if she wishes to perform it perfectly.
Step 1
Hold your arms straight down at your sides, with your hands in fists. Turn your hands so that the palms of your hands are facing each other against your legs.
Step 2
Bend your arms up, but do not move your elbows away from your body. Your fists will be at shoulder level, with the palms still facing each other.
Step 3
Lift your elbows so that each arm forms an "L" shape, with the upper arms parallel to the floor. Each arm and fist will be on either side of and slightly in front of your face, with your elbows almost at the same height as your shoulders. This is the end of the box move because it forms a box around your face. Again, your hands should be in fists, with the palms facing inward.
