3 Absolute Beginner Kickboxing Skills

Kickboxing is a mixed martial art that looks a lot like boxing as competitors warm up. However, instead of getting into position to deliver a punch, kickboxers have to deliver and defend against kicks as well. Kickboxing is not a free-for-all, however. Athletes are not allowed to deliver head butts, elbow strikes or knee strikes.
Back Fist
The back fist punch is a quick strike delivered with the back of the hand that's designed to stun the opponent. The back fist almost always targets the head. The back fist delivered with the right hand often allows the athlete to deliver a powerful hook with the left hand or a roundhouse kick because the opponent is stunned.
Front Kick
The kickboxer must be able to deliver kicks from several angles and the front kick can be a major difference in any bout. If a kickboxer is crowding his opponent and getting inside his defense, one or two well-placed front kicks can turn the tables. Raising your leg so your upper thigh is parallel to the ground can be either an offensive or defensive blow. It can send your opponent backward and leave him vulnerable to a second kick or an uppercut punch.
Crescent Kick
The crescent kick is a kick designed to use when your opponent has been weakened and ready to be knocked down. If you are standing to the left of your opponent, use your right leg to attack. You should kick your opponent in the head or neck with this blow. This is a telling blow that comes at your opponent quickly and decisively.
