2 Ways to Make Your Golf Timing Better

Timing, a critical element in the golf swing may seem like something that either you have or you don't. The truth is that timing is like any other part of your golf game -- the more you practice, the better you'll get. Spend time on some basic timing drills and it will help give you the fluidity of a solid, athletic swing.
Release Timing
Step 1
Place six golf balls in a driver head cover. Grip the cover several inches down the neck with your right hand.
Step 2
Set up to a golf ball, holding the head cover like a club. Swing the cover slowly back to the top of the backswing position. Transition into the downswing smoothly, through the hitting area.
Step 3
Find the point in the downswing at which the head cover feels heaviest. Practice releasing your hands at that point for ideal power-timing training.
Weight Transfer Timing
Step 1
Tee up a ball and set up to it with your driver in hand. Assume your normal position and stance.
Step 2
Reposition your left foot back to within six inches of your right foot. Practice taking the club back slowly and stepping forward with your left foot. Land your foot at the same point you originally had it. Stop your back swing at the top.
Step 3
Make a full swing, hitting the ball with the step and swing. Swing the club easily, focusing on timing solid contact rather than hitting the ball a long way.
